Our 2007-8 Schedule:

September 14, 2007: Professor Akhil Reed Amar of Yale Law School, who held us spellbound in October 2006, returns to Salisbury School. Topic is "America's Unwritten Constitution: Between the Lines and Beyond the Text."

November 17, 2007 : John Thornton, former President and COO of Goldman Sachs, Chairman of the Boards of the Brookings Institute and Hotchkiss School, and Professor of Management at Tsinghua University in Beijing, will speak on "China: Our Partner in the World's Future", at Hotchkiss.

April 25, 2008: Dr. Muqtedar Khan on "The Future of Islam in the West" at Salisbury School. Dr. Kahn is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Delaware. He is the Director of the Islamic Studies Program and the author of several books including Debating Moderate Islam: The Geopolitics of Islam and the West (University of Utah Press, 2007). Dr. Khan is also associated with the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding and is a Fellow of the Alwaleed Center at Georgetown University. He has been the President, Vice President and General Secretary of the Association of Muslim Social Scientists.

June 6, 2008: Dr. Daniel Callahan, co-founder of The Hastings Institute and a leader in the field of bioethics research for over 40 years, on "Ethical Issues in Universal Healthcare: Are Medical Progress and Equal Access Compatible?", at Hotchkiss School's Walker Auditorium. This event is co-sponsored by Sharon Hospital.

September 12: Global Warming and Local Action, Speaker TBA

October 24: The Perfect Presidency, featuring Professor Akhil Reed Amar of Yale Law School. This event will be held at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, Connecticut.

We plan to hold forums on Pakistan/Afghanistan and Immigration in the Spring of 2009.

All events are on Fridays at 7:30PM unless otherwise noted.
